Keep Puako Beautiful – Sunscreen Awareness Poster & Calendar Contest

Entries due at the March 2 Puako Boat Ramp West Hawaii Community Beach Cleanup. Contact keeppuakobeautiful@gmail.com for information on entries and collection sites to meet the 4/6/19 deadline.

Mahalo for your interest in teaching our keiki and spreading the word about the effects of sunscreen on our marine environment!

Goal

The goal of this poster contest for Hawaii keiki is to increase awareness about the harmful effects of sunscreen on the marine environment through education and outreach. Educate your student or class about sunscreen and its effects on the marine environment and then talk about ways to help solve the problem! Students will be encouraged to come up with a poster that helps explain the problem or encourages a positive solution.

Guidelines

We will have three age groups: K-Grad 4, Grades 5-8, and Grades 9-12. This contest will be open to all students who would like to participate. The participating classes or homeschool students will select their top three entries to submit at the cleanup. Individual students whose class may not be participating may submit entries on site.

Categories

  1. Crayons, colored pencils or paint
  2. Combination of category 1 plus micro plastic and marine debris on card stock

Posters should be created on the back of the entry form (click here to download) with contact information; name, age, phone number and email address on one side and the sunscreen poster art on the other side of a 8.5”x11” piece of paper using media like crayons, paint or a combination of paint, marine debris, micro plastics and glue entrants should print. Combination entry should be on card stock.
